About us

The Economic Council of Okeechobee County was formed in 1990 by twelve prominent business leaders, each with the desire to leave a positive impact on the County lasting for generations to come. For nearly 30 years the Economic Council has done just that, with members tirelessly working to realize a vision of a vibrant and dynamic Okeechobee County.

The ECO is a non-profit, non-partisan organization acting as a catalyst between the public and private sectors to promote open dialogue, collaboration, planning and action. The Council is the community’s oldest and most influential organization dedicated to advocating for an improved quality of life and a healthy business climate in Okeechobee County.

Since its inception, the ECO has given industry leaders a single, united voice by which they can express new ideas, business needs, and concerns to policy makers at both the local and state level. The Council consistently advocates for responsible public spending, government transparency, and believes creating a prosperous business climate is the foundation for maintaining a vibrant standard of living and way of life in Okeechobee.

The Council’s key values, priorities and committee objectives are always intended to align with our mission as an organization; “to create an environment that promotes prudent economic growth and improves the quality of life in Okeechobee County, Florida.”

The ECO has developed a conversation between local business leaders; providing not just a means for them to get to know one another, but also a unified platform upon which they can communicate local business needs
